South Shields Women embark on their first away game of 2026, which will see them travel to North Yorkshire to face Harrogate Town AFC Women on Sunday (2pm kick-off).
The lasses made it a dream start to the new year with a 5-0 thrashing at home to Brunsmeer Athletic Women and they will be looking to continue their good run of results this weekend.
Harrogate Town are seventh in the NERWFL Premier Division standings with 13 points - Shields have the same number of points but have played two fewer games.
Sunday’s hosts come into the game fresh off the back of an 11-0 demolition job against Forge Way Women in the West Riding Women’s County Cup.
Last time we met
The Mariners faced Harrogate Town twice in the space of eight games last season - watch back the highlights from the last meeting back in April 2025.
Sophie’s thoughts

Co-Head Coach Sophie Clough spoke ahead of Sunday’s action.
Ahead of the First Team’s visit to Harrogate she said: “We’re looking forward to carrying the form from last week into this weekend after a great game, with multiple goal scorers and a clean sheet.
“Harrogate were a good footballing side when we faced them last year, so we’re looking forward to playing a good game and implementing things we’ve worked on this week.”
And leading up to the Reserve Team’s trip to Darlington she added: “With a strengthened squad heading into this weekend playing against another strong side that we’ve faced previously, the group are looking forward to getting after it and putting on a good team performance.”
Jen’s thoughts
We caught up with Jen Wootten ahead of this weekend’s visit to Harrogate.
She said: “I’m excited to play Harrogate - we had a good win last weekend in our first game of 2026 and we are looking to continue that.
“We are yet to play them this season so we’re going to go in and just play our football.”
