SSFC Women have "a lot to be optimistic about" according to Miller

South Shields Women Co-Head Coach Alex Miller says the team has "a lot to be optimistic about" ahead of the start of their pre-season programme next week.

The lengthy off-season break is almost at an end and that brings a lot of excitement about what is to come, but in some ways it is the perfect opportunity to look back and reflect on what has happened over the past 12 months.

“It’s been a great chance to recharge after a busy season, but also a good opportunity to reflect, plan, and prepare,” she admitted.

“As coaches, the work never fully stops in the off-season, but having a bit of space has allowed us to look ahead and really focus on how we want to approach the new season.”

Pre-season is vital, in terms of putting in the groundwork ahead of another competitive NERWFL Premier Division campaign, and that is something which isn’t lost on Miller.

She continued: “We’re really looking forward to it.

“Pre-season is a chance to lay - or re-lay - the foundations, not just physically, but in terms of identity, standards, and togetherness.

“It’s always exciting seeing new and returning players come together, and we’ve got a lot to be optimistic about going into this year.”

In terms of ambitions for the upcoming season, Miller is looking forward to the challenge of developing not only the individual players that make up the team, but learning more as a coach too.

“Our main aim is to keep raising the bar,” she added.

“We want to build a team that’s competitive, confident on the ball, and difficult to break down - but also a team with a strong culture, where players support each other and enjoy the challenge.

“Personally, I’m focused on helping each player grow, especially in the key moments where games are won and lost.

“I’m also excited to keep learning and growing as a coach throughout the season.”

Miller wanted to finish with a message to the supporters who have continued to back the lasses all the way, through the high moments as well as the low ones.

“Just a massive thank you for your continued support,” she finished.

“We really appreciated the constant encouragement last season, and we’d love to see that continue into the new campaign.

“We’re building a strong group here and we can’t wait to put on some great performances.

“Stick with us - there’s plenty to look forward to this season!”
