SSFC Women "didn't capitalise" on Thornaby chances, says Wootten

Jen Wootten believes South Shields Women deserved more from their trip to Thornaby.

The lasses went away empty-handed against one of the league favourites on Sunday, and she feels the final result doesn’t tell the full story in terms of how the team played out there.

“I don’t think it fully reflects on our performance,” she said afterwards.

“I think we worked hard and created plenty of chances, but we didn’t capitalise on them.”

Wootten put in a Player of the Match-winning performance in defence, shifting from her usual midfield spot to accommodate for absences elsewhere in the squad.

She had a captivating display too, fighting for balls and duels and never giving up.

“I think I adapt well to any position the team needs me to play in and I think Alex and Sophie [Co-Head Coaches] know that I’ll always try my best regardless,” she affirmed.

“It’s easier when you have good teammates behind you to keep you on the right track.”

The game wasn’t short of chances from a Shields viewpoint but ultimately they weren’t able to convert those opportunities into goals.

Wootten feels the effort and desire was there, but it just wasn’t enough on the day.

She agreed: “Yes, there’s always positives to take from every game.

“Like I said, I think we create chances going forward and getting balls into dangerous areas - we just couldn’t convert.

“The team battled and worked hard till the end.”

Harrogate Town AFC Women are the visitors on Sunday in what will be the team’s first match at Harton Welfare since the back end of November.

“Always looking forward to the next game,” Wootten exclaimed.

“We dominated against Harrogate when we played them away so we will definitely be looking to do the same this weekend and get back to winning ways.”

The colorful visuals and smooth animations give Football Bros IO a lively, competitive vibe. It feels like a cartoon sports showdown where every move matters. The exaggerated tackles and dramatic steals make each match both hilarious and intense.
