SOUTH SHIELDS 0-1 MACCLESFIELD

South Shields FA Trophy adventure comes to an end in 1-0 defeat

The opening goal wasn’t found until a minute before half-time, a goal which unfortunately saw Macclesfield take the lead through Luke Duffy.

The Mariners came into Saturday’s FA Trophy clash with the visitors looking to regain winning form whilst simultaneously dish out defeat to the side who gave them their first defeat of the season.

The visitors crafted the first chance of the game thanks to Isaac Buckley-Ricketts who found himself in-behind and beyond Tom Watson, however South Shields’ Dan Savage made a fantastic recovery and cleared the ball away.

With seven minutes left of the first-half Shields’ crafted a big opportunity inside the box.

A cross from the left side of the field reached Sean McGurk who played into Cedwyn Scott — who; back to goal, turned and lashed the ball toward Max Dearnley, however the block from Rollin Menayese allowed Macclesfield to regain possession.

In the 74th minute of the game the Mariners were given a lifeline when Danny Elliott rattled the post.
