Norton reflects on SSFC Women's entertaining West End draw

Zoe Norton has reflected on South Shields Women’s entertaining 4-4 draw against Sunderland West End Ladies.

It rained goals on an afternoon where the weather followed suit and an incredible eight goals were scored.

Norton got her first goal for the club since last season's 1-1 draw against Bradford City back in October 2023.

“It’s definitely been a long time coming,” she said, “and something I've wanted to try to add to my game this season, to help the team out.” 

Things didn’t pan out for The Mariners, however, despite being 2-0 up at the break, but Norton says there are some positives to take from what was otherwise a mixed performance.

She added: “As a team we know we didn’t perform the way we wanted to and it’s definitely something we will reflect on this week in training.

“However it’s definitely a positive that we’re still managing to score as many as we did with arguably not our best performance.”

Another thing to highlight was that there were four different goalscorers, from all over the pitch - Sophie Greener, Eve Gatens and Annece Legg also scored on Sunday. 

Norton continued: “It’s good to be able to have goals throughout the squad, especially from everywhere on the pitch.”

Finally, she had a few words for the fans who braved the bad weather to turn out in their numbers over in Sunderland.

“We all really appreciate the support as it helps drive all the lasses on - it’ll hopefully be a very exciting season ahead,” she finished.

The lasses look to get back to winning ways this Sunday when they face newly-promoted York RI Ladies at Harton Welfare (2pm kick-off).
