South Shields host Newcastle United's U21 side at the 1st Cloud Arena in their final pre-season fixture.

Elliott Dickman's Mariners conclude their pre-season schedule against a young Magpies side including a Darren Palmer with family ties to the Club.

Shields are fresh off a 2-1 away win at Consett in midweek courtesy of goals from Joao Gomes and Dan Savage.

Newcastle will be without Jamie Miley, Trevan Sanusi and Alfie Harrison as they are all with the First Team in Japan on their pre-season tour.

Shields manager Elliott Dickman is cherishing the opportunity to keep the good progress of the team up against another strong outfit.

"It's another good opportunity for us to play against a world-renowned Academy side, they've been vital to producing players for their First Team.

"We're expecting a good challenge and a good test.

"We are making sure that we are all-systems-go for our away trip to Hereford a week on Saturday.

"We want to continue the good form we have been on in pre-season and make sure that we are as competitive as we can be."
