MATCH PREVIEW: CHORLEY FC (A)

Tomorrow night sees Ian Watson’s Mariners travel to Victory Park to take on Andy Preece’s men in a midweek clash which could see their gap at the top of the league stretch to 7 points.

The league leaders go into Tuesday night’s clash in astonishing goalscoring form - having netted 13 times in their last five matches. Watson too, will hope that the Mariners can display a similar performance of that to the reverse fixture, whereby his team comfortably won the game in a 2-0 manner.

If the travelling league leaders are to get a win, you’d imagine one of their paths to victory would be through the prolific Paul Blackett.

The talisman has netted 22 times this season, having scored seven in his last five. Blackett too, knows how to find the back of the net against his upcoming opponent - as in the reverse fixture the Shields’ hotshot secured the win with the Mariners second goal in the 85th minute.

The homeside also come into the game confident - having won their recent encounter in a thrilling fashion, defeating Macclesfield in a 2-1 away victory in the 90th minute.

Chorley’s Mike Calveley was the one to dispatch from the penalty spot, nicking the three points in a snatch and grab finish. If the hosts have any success on Tuesday against the league leaders, no doubt the heart of the success could come through Calveley.

The midfielder picked up his fifth of the campaign with his winner against Macclesfield and is looking to be a crucial player for Chorley at the back end of the season.

The hosts sit at 14th place in the league, a win on Tuesday could see them reach 11th place, just eight points away from the play-offs.

However, Watson, Blackett and the Mariners are in tremendous form as of late, having won their latest outing - a comfortable 3-0 win against Curzon Ashton, travelling away supporters will be hoping for something similar on Tuesday night.
