Mariners raid Wealdstone to land Jordy Mongoy on loan

Forward Jordy Mongoy has signed for South Shields on a 28-day loan.

The 23-year-old has joined from National League club Wealdstone, having had previous spells with sides including Dagenham and Redbridge, Lewes and Bognor Regis.

Able to play centrally or from a wide position on the left, Mongoy could make his debut for the Mariners in Tuesday’s Pitching In Northern Premier League match against Bamber Bridge at 1st Cloud Arena.

The Dagenham and Redbridge Academy graduate said: “I’m buzzing to be here.

“This is a big club with a big following, and the style of play South Shields has will help me with my development.

“There is a clear goal here to win promotion and it’s my target to help that, particularly by looking to add goals.

“It’s a long way from home, but I’m very committed and I love football, so the journey is not that much for me.

“I’m very excited about the opportunity I’ve been given and I can’t wait to try to make a difference.”

South Shields manager Kevin Phillips said: “We’re delighted to welcome Jordy to the club.

“He is a very exciting player who brings energy, pace and hopefully goals to the squad, as well as increased competition for places.

“We haven’t scored as many goals as we’d have liked so far this season, but we’re trying to address that and bringing in Jordy is part of that.

“I know how excited Jordy is to get started, and hopefully he will score and create some goals to help us get where we need to be.”
