HEANEY DEPARTS FOR SPENNYMOOR TOWN

We can confirm that Mackenzie Heaney has joined Spennymoor Town for an undisclosed fee, subject to FA approval.

Mackenzie joined South Shields in September 2022 at the age of 23, becoming our first signing ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

He quickly established himself as a vital part of the squad, showcasing his versatility across multiple positions and adding valuable depth to the team.

A key contributor to our promotion to the National League North, Mackenzie went on to make 88 league appearances, scoring 8 goals and providing 10 assists.

A popular figure both on and off the pitch, Mackenzie will be greatly missed in the dressing room. We thank him for his dedication and wish him all the best in this next chapter of his career at Spennymoor Town.

Mackenzie Heaney had some words to say upon his departure:

"Mariners, As I prepare to move on to the next chapter of my journey, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to everyone who’s been part of this incredible experience.

To my teammates – thank you for the battles we’ve fought together, the laughs and the all lessons I’ve learnt along the way. Each of you made the dressing room feel like home and the pitch feel like a place where anything was possible. To the fans – your support has been the heartbeat of this club. Whether we were under the lights, or the darkest of days, your voices lifted me, and that I’ll never forget.

And to everyone behind the scenes – the medical team, kit staff, volunteers, and all those whose names might not be in the headlines but whose work makes everything possible – thank you for your dedication and kindness. Being a Mariner has meant more to me than words can fully describe.

Though I may be leaving the club, the memories, the friendships, and the pride of representing the Mariners will stay with me forever.
