Bouggess nets four for SSFC Women in 5-1 win vs Ossett United

Madison Bouggess’ fabulous four finishes fired South Shields Women to a rampant 5-1 victory against Ossett United Women on Sunday.

The NERWFL Premier Division clash got off to a flyer for the Mariners as they went two goals up within the first 14 minutes - Demi Pine scored the opener and just seven minutes later, Bouggess doubled their lead.

Unfortunately, the lasses couldn’t celebrate their Sunday afternoon with a clean sheet as in the 21st minute, Emily Burgin pulled one back for the visitors.

A quick response however, was shown by the hosts, specifically their now top goalscorer Bouggess, who slotted away not once but twice, meaning the forward took her side into the break with a 4-1 lead.

It also meant she had completed a first-half hat-trick in just 29 minutes.

The second-half was another dominant display from the hosts, but there was only one goal to celebrate this time.

To little surprise, the goalscorer was Bouggess who netted her fourth goal of the afternoon.

Shields came into the fixture looking to get back to winning ways following their recent defeat to Alnwick Town Ladies.

Despite this loss, the Mariners did have a mental advantage over the visitors, which was that in the reverse fixture they came out on top and were 3-1 winners on the road.

Right from the off, the hosts looked threatening, with every piece of possession, and only seven minutes had passed before they found themselves infront.

Pine received the ball down the left side, before cutting in and smashing one past Ella Jacobs.

Soon after, Bouggess decided she would be the next name on the scoresheet: after an amazing interception from teammate Eva McDonald, Bouggess found herself one-on-one with Jacobs and slotted home the Mariners' second.

This goal-hungry game of football wasn’t coming to an end anytime soon as just seven minutes later, Ossett United struck back through Burgin.

As a result, the following 19 minutes were slightly nervy, before Bouggess rifled her second goal of the game.

It was an interception that created the chance, much like the previous goal, however this time it was Bouggess who intercepted the ball, created the chance and most certainly finished it off as she rounded Jacobs and tucked in coolly.

In the 43rd minute, the Mariners scored again - and again, it was Bouggess with the goal.

The forward found herself through one-on-one, once more, and rather than rounding Jacobs this time, she simply smashed a left-footed effort past the goalkeeper.

In the second-half, Shields displayed nothing short of a composed, winning performance as they retained possession well and hit Ossett United where it really hurt on occasion.

This stinging occasion happened just four minutes after the second-half whistle blew, when Bouggess picked up her fourth of the afternoon.

The remaining time compiled a ridiculous amount of possession by the hosts, as well as some terrific saves by Alena Miller, stopping in their tracks the likes of Debbie Hastings - one of the league's top scorers - as well as Burgin.

Now the lasses can look ahead to their NERWFL League Cup Semi-Final tie against Birtley Town Ladies on Thursday, April 30th - full match details to be shared shortly.
