Lee Picton was appointed as South Shields Football Club’s first sporting director in the summer of 2022 after a hugely successful four-year period as the first-team’s joint manager, and a stint as chief executive.
During his time as joint manager, Lee had a sizeable influence on the overall cultural development of the club and demonstrated inspirational leadership qualities and vision, leading to his promotion onto the board.
Lee’s impressive background as a player, coach and manager in non-league football is a real strength which helps to balance the decision-making and strategic development of the club on and off the pitch.
While chief executive, Lee was the main person responsible for the day-to-day running of the club, and was instrumental in the project to construct the new main stand at 1st Cloud Arena.
He now has an entirely sporting remit, with a particularly strong focus on the exciting development of the club's Academy, which he helped to form in the summer of 2017.
