MATCH PREVIEW: CURZON ASHTON (H)

On Saturday Ian Watson’s South Shields clash with Mark Bradshaw’s Curzon Ashton for a matchup in the Enterprise National League North that could see the hosts reach 80 points for the season.

The Mariners go into Saturday’s game looking to take their high-flying spirits from Tuesday's win against AFC Fylde into the game. So too, Watson will hope that his side showcases a performance similar to the one shown against Bradshaw’s men last September when the Mariners triumphed to a 2-1 victory.

The hosts hotshot Paul Blackett could undoubtedly be the league leaders’ key to victory, with the striker hoping to follow on from his previous game against AFC Fylde and the reverse fixture against Curzon.

The deadly number-nine, has netted 21 times in the league this season - the joint-fourth highest scorer in the league and will undoubtedly look to continue his current hot streak of six goals in his last four appearances.

The visitors, however, come into Saturday’s clash having not played a midweek fixture, with their last outing seeing them fall to a 5-1 defeat against the once league leaders, AFC Fylde.

Curzon currently sit in 14th place in the league picking up 45 points from 35 games. With the visitors 10 points away from the play-offs - picking up a result on Saturday is crucial for Bradshaw’s men if they have any hope of pushing for promotion play-offs this season.

The visitor's route to victory could come through their star man, Charlie Weston. Weston has bagged 12 league goals this season with two coming in his last three appearances for the club, Curzon too have scored nine goals in their last five matches.

With this in mind then, Watson’s Mariners know that Saturday will be no easy feat, as scorer from Tuesday night’s game - Sean McGurk said: “There is still 12 cup finals to go”.
