Mariners announce partnership with Specsavers South Shields


South Shields FC’s vision for success has been bolstered after a partnership with Specsavers hit the back of the net.


Specsavers South Shields has become the club’s substitutions sponsor for the remainder of the 2023-24 season.


Whenever the Mariners make a substitution, the Specsavers South Shields brand will receive coverage on the club’s Twitter page and PA system to highlight the partnership.


Specsavers South Shields retail director Melanie Moore and ophthalmic directors Caroline Angell and Emma Nicol worked with the club to kick-off the sponsorship, which will come into effect from the Mariners’ game against Peterborough Sports on Saturday, December 16th.


It is hoped this will be just the beginning of a strong relationship between the two brands.


Melanie Moore has been with the Specsavers South Shields store for 25 years, 22 of which have been as a manager, and became a partner in May 2020.


Speaking on behalf of herself and her fellow partners, she said: “We are delighted to be associated with South Shields FC, and in particular to be sponsoring the substitutions.


“It is a long-known fact that poor eyesight has been the butt of many football jokes, so it is a perfect partnership for us.


“It is a privilege to be involved with our hometown club and we hope this is the start of a successful journey with them.”


South Shields FC head of media and communications Daniel Prince said: “This is quite a quirky sponsorship which has really captured our imagination.


“It’s another huge step forward for the club to partner with such a renowned national brand as Specsavers, and we look forward to working with Melanie, Caroline and Emma to bring this partnership to life.


“It was humbling to hear of their excitement at getting involved with us and how much Specsavers South Shields wanted to be associated with their local football club.


“Our portfolio of sponsors has been increasing greatly over recent months following our promotion to Vanarama National League North, and the support we are receiving from the business community is integral to our continued progress.”
